Itinerary description
Great trail with fantastic views over Pafos forest hilltops. Perfect in every weather conditions. We happened to be there during rainy weather but views were still fantastic with dramatic clouds covering the tops of the hills and the beautiful rainbow at the end.
The official trail is linear and rather short, around 5 kms. We made it circular by returning partially using Kykkos-Panagia trail and then switching to the dirt road leading to Monashilaka picnic site.
TERRAIN: mostly narrow forest path for the official part with overall downhill trajectory. Part of another nature trail on the way back is also narrow and sometimes rocky path going above the river and then in the forest. The dirt road has mild elevation to the picnic site.
SEASON: official trail is shady for about 50%.
Part of Kykkos-Panagia trail is shady for 70-80%, however this path may be severely eroded by streams, especially the part which goes above the river.
The dirt road is mostly exposed to the sun.
SIGNS: official trail - there are 2 maps (at the beginning and the end of the trail), many direction signs both new and old, several benches en route. The extension lacks both the signs and resting places, with the exception of Kikkos-Panagia trail.
KIDS: the official trail trail is fine for kids starting from 5-6 yo, sometimes with adult supervision. The extension is better to walk following dirt road all the way, without deviation to another trail as we did. The way we walked the route is for kids of 9-10 yo minimum.
NB there are almost no parking places at the beginning of the trail (barely 1 or 2) thus we parked midway and walked along motorway to the beginning of the trail.
