Itinerary description

The Mount Crosby area in the early 1900's was found to contain small deposits of chromite and magnetite. The main area of mining was around an area called Dandy's Knob. Dandy's Knob is a small outcrop on the southern side of Lake Manchester.

This hike climbs Dandy's Knob but also circumnavigates the area around the Knob. We start from a track leading in from Lake Manchester Rd to first climb Dandy's Knob before descending to South Lake Manchester Rd. From there we follow South Lake Manchester Rd until we hit Lightline Rd. This part of Lightline Rd follows the creek in Matt's Gully.

Following Matts Gully we turn off for a short stint on Mermaid break before taking us on a track that takes us back to Lake Manchester Rd. On the other side of the road we follow the Woollett Track until we get to the Hobbs Track which will take us back to our start.

I lovely loop around the forest of the Southern Hills of the mermaid chain. All the hills are early and the track is flat on the return.

Good workout maintenance hike. I ended up cutting it short at the end as it was humid and I wasn’t coping well with the heat. It’s good to have the option to tap out when needed !

Yes definately an option. This is definwtely a cooler months hike. Those couple of big hills at the start are murderous.
