Itinerary description
Dave’s Creek Circuit is a very interesting walk especially for the diverse vegetation. The trail runs through small Antarctic Beech forest, rainforest of eucalypt and casuarina, piccabeen palms, mallee woodland and heath.
The walk starts from the upper car park at Binna Burra next to the Lamington tea house and progresses along the border trail initially before heading down towards the Ships Stern Circuit.
At a point you depart to the right of the trail heading through some special forest before coming out in the open cliffs with great views of the Springbrook plateau and Mt Hobwee and looking down on the Numinbah valley.
The track includes a small trip out to a lookout and a trip to a cave. A great place for morning tea is the lookout that looks down on the Natural bridge area of the Numinbah Valley. At the time this area this area had been recently burnt.
This track takes the Surprise Rock scramble and drop off to the right hand side to avoid the descent down the tree at Surprise Rock. The track eventually returns to the ships turned circuit trail and eventually the Border Track to return to the start point. This can be avoided by heading to the right of Surprise rock.
The climb or elevation game advertised for this hike is not correct and something around the 350m to 400m is properly correct. Timing is about 4 hours.
