Itinerary description
Day 10. Today was another 350km drive from the beautiful town of Kuldiga, Latvia to the lovely town of Nida on the Curonian Spit, Lithuania. The ‘Spit’ is a national park and a cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site. Basically it’s a 100km long monster size sand dune of a peninsula with trees on it. It’s about 100km long but you can only drive half of it as far as Nida. The other half belongs to Russia as the Spit borders the Kallingrad enclave. You have to catch a five minute ferry to get onto it from the Lithuania side and at its narrowest the Spit is 400m wide and at its widest about 4 kilometres. It has lots of trees, sand dunes and quaint waterside towns. We did manage to do the tallest dune on the peninsula which is cracking 52 meters high. It is somewhere you want to go for a week with a mountain bike or in your old age to die a slow lingering death surrounded by cold beer and beauty! Stunning place 🥰
