Itinerary description
The second day of the Laugavegur is without a doubt the most breathtaking of the entire tour. In particular, the panoramas in the middle of the route - on Lake Álftavatn - are of an unprecedented, otherworldly beauty. The lake is hidden in the Rhyolite Mountains and it is impossible to get a bad picture here. However, the route entails much more than beautiful pictures. For example, an ice cave which you can visit unexpectedly pops up. This is not a difficult stage except for maybe the loose volcanic sand in the beginning. There is also a long descent, but it is actually surprisingly easy to take. The path winds down so you never walk very steeply down. The last part is flat and goes to Álftavatn basecamp.
