Itinerary description
The last day of the Laugavegur starts with a descent over loose volcanic sand and rocks. Personally, I find this the most difficult part of the entire Laugavegur. Every now and then it takes an effort to continue, but as a reward there is a nice bridge over the Markarfljót canyon that provides a scenic panorama. The majority of the day was shrouded in a thick layer of fog. It gave the walk a mystical touch, but made it difficult to navigate at times. Especially when posts are placed in the most unexpected places and they can easily be missed. When a sheep suddenly bleats, I know I'm returning to the civilized world. First there is a challenging river crossing where the current is quite strong. After this point, more greenery pops up with a forest. End stop Þórsmörk literally means Thor's forest. This is not the most diverse stage of this tour, but still a fun one to do thanks to the green end.
