Itinerary description
This trail was recorded by "Welcome to Republic of Armenia"; refer to http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=11408597 . This user has excellent GPS records and gives detailed info about the places; I would reccomend his Wikiloc records.
This is one beautiful trail, passing some length of Debed Canyon. I did it in May 2016, starting on an afternoon, camping one night, and finishing the other day before noon. Had a great rain shower, but that was fine!
The trail is easy to navigate, passes through a clear path. Only at the beginning I choose a more western route; I believe choosing a more eastern route (20m east) from Kobayr Monastry will make it easier. "Welcome to Republic of Armenia"'s trail record is more refined than mine.
There obviously is one climb, but not very steep; you'd cope with less ascents if you follow the opposite direction (as did "Welcome to Republic of Armenia"!).
The water sources are marked, but may be dry in the summer.
A bus from Alaverdi to Odzun leaves every hour (between 10-16 I believe).
Be warned tough; it is hard to impossible to leave the trail, once you start. Only in km 1.5 the trail connects with the main road, but for the rest, west is covered with impassible rock massif, and east is mostly steep bushes. You cannot reach the village Aygehat! The tracks look as if it is possible to leave the trail at Horomayr, but you cannot; the record is misleading!!!!
For another good long-distance hike, refer to http://www.everytrail.com/guide/janapar-trail
