Itinerary description
Double loop around Lac Montriond (upper & lower level).
This walk starts at the Lake’s upper carpark. We walked down to the lower end of the lake along the busy lakeshore path. While continuing to curve round the lake, we leave the lakeshore path and briefly walk along the D228 main road (in the direction of l’auberge du Verdoyant) turning left up a gravel track by the bus stop, followed by an immediate right, up a steep gravel track/road. When the track forks, take the smaller upper path (the main track heads to some houses). The path is now steeply climbing between the trees, with occasional views of the lake.
At the next fork (Le Bourdet) take the lower (righthand) path. Further along, at la Latay dessous (you are joined by a path from above) you have reached the highest park of the walk.
Weave between several seemingly abandoned chalets at Maison Neuve, ignore several paths that take you steeply down to tge D228, until you get to le Choseau. Here you walk to, and cross, the D228, rejoining the crowds for a glimpse of the Ardent waterfall.
Follow the well beaten path back towards lac Montriond. Once you reach the buildings by les Albertains you have the option of taking a path on the left, running in parallel to the main path, but higher up the hill.
Once you get back to the upper lake carpark, most people will turn right heading back down. You can continue, but the path is narrow, with boulders, landslips, and steep drops. However it is beautiful and you won’t meet many people at all! You rejoin the main path at the bottom of the lake, through the crazy golf course!
To finalise your lower loop, now continue along the shoreline path, back to the upper carpark.
