- Druk Path Trek is a six-day trek, being the most popular in Bhutan as it passes through a stunning natural landscape of blue pine forests, high peaks and pristine lakes, while at the same time offering the opportunity to visit some ancient lhakhangs , dzongs and villages.
- It's also a moderate hike with little distance between camps. The trail leads through open forests, blue pine and dwarf at altitudes ranging from 2400-4200 m.
- This hike also offers breathtaking views of Mount Gangkar Puensum, the world's highest unscaled peak.
1ST DAY:
- The first day we climbed almost 1,000 m elevation. We start on a gravel road past some farms and then climb a steep ridge before driving through blue pines and forests. Once on the summit we can see Jele Dzong and descend to the camp below the Dzong.
2nd DAY:
- Starts with a visit to Jele Dzong and after with a steep climb, then the slope is more gradual. The trail passes through thick alpine forests. You can see shepherds and their yaks around the camp.
3rd DAY:
The trail follows a ridge with views of the mountains and the valley is simply breathtaking. We camped next to Lake Jimgelang Tsho. This lake is known for its giant-sized trout.
4th DAY:
The trail goes through dwarf trees past Lake Janey Tsho. We can see some yak shepherds' camps where it is possible to have the opportunity to see the life of a nomad. We camped near Lake Simkotra Tsho.
5th DAY:
The day begins with a gradual rise. A spectacular view of Mount Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan's highest mountain and several other Himalayan peaks. From this pass, the trek leads to a descent toward Phajodhing where we will camp.
6th DAY:
After passing the Phadjoding Monastery, the trek to Thimphu is down through a forest with mostly blue pine.
