Itinerary description
Rated Difficult for:
* Distance covered between campsite 1 & 2. There are plenty of places in between to camp.
* The optional but recommended steep climb to Mt. Torbreck, which includes some rock scrambling and seasonal snow.
Rated Very Difficult for:
* The 3km stretch of the alternately named Royston / Lake Mountain Rd that no longer exists. This took me 2 hours to cover, at a fast and very determined pace. I veered well off the former road at one point without realising for 5+ minutes. Anything exposed was cut by blackberries and regrowth. Some even got through my gaiters!
Before attempting this road, please take careful note of the waypointed notes in this section, and preferably try to find an alternate route out of the area. Do not trust unverified online maps such as Google or OpenCycleMap.
The positives:
* Eildon's pub is a nice place to 'start your hike'.
* Lake Eildon is a great place to wake up before a long walk.
* I saw some Wallabies and some interesting little red breasted birds.
* Mt. Torbreck's views are great.
* Most of the gradients are easy.
* Water seemed plentiful ... possibly due to snow melt.
* I encountered 5 live and 1 dead deer.
* Places to pitch a tent along the state forest roads were plentiful.
* Lake Mountain's staff were incredibly friendly.
* The groomed ski paths at Lake Mountain were great for snow shoeing.
* Lake Mountain's staff were also really generous!
* There was toilets when I needed them.
* I was able to test out my UAV LiPo as a battery pack for my phone and camera.
The not so positives:
* The dead deer had probably been killed be a dog. It stalked me for ~2km.
* The middle stretch has some obvious logging work going on.
* The snow is disappearing.
* My knees were streaked with red from blackberry thorns during the regrown track section.
* I didn't make it to Marysville as I planned.

Hey mate, me and my scout group have been considering doing a hike through this area but have been having trouble finding a map/maps of the area that we can bring with us hiking. do you know of any places you can get a map?
