Itinerary description
This trek is the "Fitz Roy trek" but doing the other way around. You get to see the El Chalten cerro (also known as Fitz Roy) from every angle. In a clear day like the day we did you see the whole trek up to El lago de los tres.
We started by getting a taxi to "Hosteria El Pilar". From there we started trekking all the way up following the course of the river.
Once you get to a 1km to "El Lago de los tres" there is a sign to warn you of the 400 m elevation in a 1km walk to the lake. The walk was quite steep and the hardest of all the treks we did while in El Chalten. Definitely worth it to see first the lake, which was frozen and then a short walk to see "El lago sucio" (the dirty lake) that gets its name for the bits of ice floating in it. (It was very clear and blue when we saw it).
After going down you have around 11km left of walk through the forest and with a stop by "Laguna Capri" where we stopped for a few "mates" to then continue for the last bit of the trek, around 5 km all the way back to the town.
