Itinerary description

This trail was exhausting because of the length but enjoying because of the beauty of the landscape. Starting in El Cotillo behind the bus station at 10am (should be earlier) I went into the direction of Majade de las pilas. The first part of the track until I went along the gorge I was searching for the little trekkingtrail which is signed in wikiloc - didn't found it, so you can walk along the gorge directly from the beginning. Then have some nice hills, montaña de castillo and nice hills again..Finally reached Lajares where you'll find some nice restaurants to have lunch. Went through the village until I arrive the football yard and turned left until I saw the signs to Calderón Hondo - the volcano. After climbing it, I had a little excursion and passed some ruins, after which I saw the signs showing the direction to Lajares or Corralejo. You can also go to Corralejo and go back to El Cotillo by bus. I chose to go back to Lajares and saw a beautiful landscape having several mountains and the volcano next to each other. Back in Lajares I took the same way back I took to come to it. But I missed one intersection, so please follow the way to Molino de Lajares in reverse. Otherwise you have to walk along the road fv-10 which can be crowded by cars. Through the hills I came back to El Cotillo via El Roque and was very happy to be home again :) but it was worth it! Saw many birds, striped squirrels and lots of blossoms. Also the mountains and the volcano are great.
Advice:
1) you'll need proper boots for the hills (up is ok, but down is slippery)
2) I had a 2ltrs bottle of water with me and needed it really
3) I was so happy to have a hat with me because of the wind
4) you can shorten the track by taking the bus in Lajares (no. 7 or 8)
