Itinerary description
A nice but not very spectacular walk in the north part of El Hierro. You could skip the part to El Mocanal, we went there to get an ice-cream and some food from the supermarket. The rocky volcanic underground makes the walking a bit difficult. There are no amazing views like on many of the other walks, except for Pozo de Las Calcosas at the start/finish of this hike. Pozo de Las Calcosas is a small former fishermen village located 80 m below the parking, with tiny houses and two natural pools. A must-see and a perfect place to relax after the hike. The sea was pretty wild when we were there. I didn’t want to risk to swim in the smaller pool in which the waves came rolling in, and the larger pool was not filled with water. This is not a sandy beach but there is plenty of flat pavement. There is also a big statue of Neptune made from recycled material. 3 out of 5 stars for this walk.
