El Hornillo Circuit, Mijas
This route starts adjacent to the entrance of the Valtocado urbanisation between Km 8 & 9 on the A387.
The route is more or less downhill for the first half of the way and then uphill for the return journey.
It goes through the rural areas of Lomas del Flamenco, El Hornillo and La Alqueria.
The route takes in 3 famous trees:- Algarrobo de Finca Alarcon, Encina de la Alcarihuela and Alcornoque de la Manzanilla.
There are some good views on this walk.
A big section of the return journey is on a minor tarmac road, which I didn’t find busy at all.
Arriving at a junction that that shows Valtocado left, Mijas Right, you go straight ahead (there is a no entry sign for cars).
The road eventually turns into a bad track, due to a dig up for a large water pipe and also heavy rains washing the path away. This section was very uneven and rocky but was manageable, eventually coming back out onto the A387 main road, where you have to turn left.
Take care on this small stretch back as a lot of drivers tend to overtake.
