Itinerary description
This hike starts at the visitors center near El Paso. It takes you via the recreational area El Pilar over the Cumbre Nueva rigde back to the visitors center.
The hike is about 19 km long with 900 m climbing.
It is an attractive hike, because it has quite some diverse scenery. From pine forest, rocky and sandy volcanic fields to the moist and green ridge of the Cumbre Nueva.
Often you'll literally walk with your head in the clouds on the Cumbre Nueva, where the clouds flow over the ridge from the east side of La Palma to the west side.
The last part of the hike is through some green fields, with interesting piles of stones called "Paredones". These were made by the local inhabitants, to clear the land of unwanted stones. These stone monuments were also used for drying fruits such as figs and grapes.
