Itinerary description

El Pozuelo in El Juanar - Ojén

This is a walk up into the Sierra Blanca behind the hotel 'Refugio de Juanar'. From the parking area near the hotel walkers take the surfaced route back down towards the main road. After half a kilometre or so they leave the road and descend into the valley. From there it becomes a steep and long single file climb up the rocky path towards the saddle. There is a fair amount of walking up and down the mountain and this can be taxing for some. The wonderful mountain views in this quiet and protected area are well worth the effort. Once at the saddle, the walk continues for some distance on a flat track and eventually drops back down to the Refugio.

Directions to the Meeting Place
From Marbella
Take the A355 direction Ojén. Continue past Ojén. About 1 - 2 km after the top of the hill, the turn-off for the Refugio de Juanar is signposted on the left. Take this turn-off and continue, about 5 km, until reaching the end of the main road. At this point the hotel is to the right. Straight ahead is an unmade road in which it is possible to park. Please do not use the hotel carpark.
