Itinerary description
The recorded trail is the return from El Salto, down to the El Alto road, the trail head. Of course, for going up, you reverse the route.
El Salto is a small village with just a few houses. There are a few families that practise organic farming and have coffee, cacao, oranges, onions, spices, vegetables, and many more.
Just behind the village is a series of 20+ waterfalls. The lower 2 have large swimming holes and are easily accesable.
For the higher sections, the trail becomes a lot trickier, especially to the 'cave waterfall'. We recommend you to book those as an excusion with Josue, the youngest son (he is 21) of Egberto. They live in the last house. The mother Esther also cooks great meals, it helps if you book those in advance. We ordered vergan meals, and those were excellent. Call Egberto in advance for meals or tours: +50767194287.
Apart from the heat, the trail is easy. Start very early and take plenty of water. The village has reliable drinking water to fill for your return. The trail head can be reached from Sante Fe, if you take the minibus to El Alto, it passes the trail head shown here.
