Itinerary description

A nice, simple circular route that starts in a beautiful valley and takes you up to the ridgeline of the opposing hills, giving you a spectacular view of the valley floor, Pyrenees and town of Olot.
The route starts from the public car park situated at the entrance to the town Els Hostalets, which you can't miss as you take the turn off into the town. To begin, walk into the centre of the town (Plaza Major) and take a left. Follow the road out of town and you will parallel the ridgeline on your right. After a 1km you will turn right, after crossing a stream. Here you will see your first yellow marks which you will follow for the rest of the route. Here you see the Roman road for the first time. Continue on this path before crossing back over the stream and continuing towards a newly built rental cottage. Just after the cottage (clearly signed with yellow marks) you turn right and start your ascent. The climb is steady but not overly steep. Eventually, you make your way to the top of the ridgeline and the next 20 minutes involve following the path around some private properties until you reach a road which services all the farms and properties that are situated on top of the hills. Effectively, you follow this road all the way until the Sant Miquel de Castelló. It does turn into more of a track as you get closer. Once you have reached the Sant Miquel de Castelló and taken in the breathtaking views, your descent back to the town of Els Hostalets d'en Bas begins. This is quite steep, so take care as you descend. Depending on the time of year, it can be quite slippery underfoot. The trail brings you out from under the treeline at the top of the town and from here it is easy to make your way back to the carpark as well as having a brief walk through the beautiful town of Hostalets d'en Bas.

Hi Adam, nice work. Next time you are up this way you absolutely must follow the "Camí de la Portallera". You'll find it as you follow the road out of Hostalets towards the 'Camí Ral'. You will see a sign for 'La Coromina', follow this road till you get to the chain barrier and you'll see the path for 'La Portallera' on your left. Well worth it. It brings you to Falgars.
