Excellent hike on the southern route in the Walls of Jerusalem. Thanks to Luis B., a great friend and walker who accompanied me on this walk.
The start is behind the Tower of David where the temporary entrance for the start of this southern route is located, below is the entrance booth and where the amount of 12 shekels per person is paid.
We begin to walk through the moat of the Tower of David to the metal spiral staircase (waypoint) that goes up to the level of the wall.
The first thing that appears is the roof of the Qishle (waypoint) that was part of an Ottoman army base in the 19th century.
Continue along the wall. I was marking, as by the northern route, the turrets that follow one another.
After the fifth turret there is a reference to the Dormition Abbey (waypoint) with an explanation on the wall of the rampart.
Very good views of the city and the exterior of the walls.
Pass through the Zion gate, where there is another turret (waypoint), and continue.
The walk ends shortly before the entrance to the Temple Mount.
An exceptional walk, which has very good views of the city and the exteriors and makes it much easier to locate oneself in the old city of Jerusalem. It was a great day for us, a little cold but with very good sun, zero clouds.
