Itinerary description
We parked our car at a parking place next to the beginning of the steps towards the Ermita de San Miguel from which you will have a wonderful view. From here you can walk on through an 'area recreativo' with many picknick benches and a number of barbecue places and vistit two beautifully situated viewpoints to enjoy the immense beauty of this place.
We took the signposted path to Istán which leads you next to the mountain slope above the road in a more direct way than the road itself to Istán. We took a random way through Istán to the Mirador de Peñon which gives a good view of the valley behind Istán.
From there we walked back towards the beginning of the town to the strating point of the Camino de la Cuesta which takes you along quite a steep track at some places to the river, the Rio Verde, that flows into the Embalse de la Concepcion.
At the lowest point you will find yourself at 99 metres high but it when you look around you get the idea that you are much higher.
What follows is a very attractive track which is nowhere steep, up to 300 metres again, a track that winds itself around the slopes in such a way that you see the next part of the track on the next slope in front of you, giving you an impression of great height which is not really there.
There are some places which give a good view of the reservoir but the best view is to be got when you reach a height of 200 metres and the slope juts out a little further than the previous ones. This is a nice place to sit for a while.
From here it is only slightly les than one kilometre to the Ermita and the parking place.

Recomendable.
Thanks for tour reaction😊

Great route. Amazing views. BUT a huge fail marking it as an easy one.
As I usually take kids and dogs on easy ones, we struggled a bit with kids here. We did a hike starting from reverse, was really hard to get up the mountain.
Thanks for your reaction. Yes, with kids it must have been a struggle doing it in reverse👍
