Itinerary description
This one is set out as Rother 50, but we started in Santa Clara instead. My wife wasn't feeling great so we drove up and around (on a sketchy little dirt road on the edge of a cliff) to Ermita Santa Clara and started from there. That allowed her to end in Vallehermoso and avoid the bulk of the uphill climb.
Regardless of where you start, though, this is a beautiful hike. Unfortunately, we went on a cloudy day, but if the sun was out it would be even more spectacular. Views along the coast, of Teide in the distance, down to Playa Vallehermoso, and of the valley itself from several different sections along the way.
From Vallehermoso to Santa Clara is a tough climb, but the rest is quite easy, really. The descent to the playa is a bit steep but not really difficult unless you happened to get caught in the rain.
