Itinerary description

A beautiful trek starting from the base of the Alhambra, continuing behind it by climbing toward the Periurbano park. The best view of the city is right at the summit of the steep hill behind the monument. The park is quiet, vast, with few cars and a gorgeous vista of the Sierra Nevada accompanying you the entire time.
There are openings on every side, the rare north one in particular that appears after a few miles up the road. There is a picnic area with soccer fields at the end of the straight line with a great camper atmosphere.
Coming back down is the most remote part of the trek, with literally no houses or cars, save for an abandoned mansion with many dark and open rooms.
Continuing in the gorge, shepherds with their flock can be seen from time to time in the olive tree fields.
After a few miles of wilderness, houses of the Sacromonte start appearing, built along the road very sparsely, giving a true rural/village feel to the town's extremity.
Following the road is less comfortable for walking but the atmosphere is still very peaceful, with local families chatting or gathering for lunch, and dogs wandering in front of you.
When you walk for a few more miles you see more and more traditional Flamenco places for food, music and dancing, and then you enter the touristy zone where the Alhambra can be seen again.
The famous mirador of San Nicolas has a fantastic view on the whole southern face of the city, along with the glistening Alhambra and its monasteries surrounding it.
Finally, the last bit of pleasure is another view on the western side of the city at the end of the street before you make your way down the stairs.
