Itinerary description

The part from Esporles to Port des Canonge is called Cami des Pescadors (fishermen’s path) named after the path followed by the fishermen of Esporles to/from the port.

Port des Canonge is the nice port city of Esporles.

After Port des Canonge the path passes the huge Son Bunyola estate with Richard Branson’s 26-bedroom luxury Son Bunyola Hotel which opened in June 2023 (originally a 16th century finca):

The part from Port des Canonge to Banyalbar is called the Cami de sa Volta des General after General F. Coroner who was an estate owner in the area in the 19th century.
The «General’s path» is one of the most leisurely routes along the Tramuntana coast. It is an easy hike with beautiful views over the coast.

Esporles:
Nestling in the valley fashioned by the Torrent de Sant Pere mountain stream, Esporles has a population of just over 4,000. Its economy was based on agriculture, animal husbandry and forestry, until, in the first half of the 20th century, a process of industrialisation began with the creation of soap, textile and paper factories supplied by the hydraulic power of the Font de sa Granja spring, while the new buildings were constructed in neo-classical and modernist styles.

Port des Canonge:
Port des Canonge is a small gravel and pebble beach next to a small urbanization of the same name in the municipality of Banyalbufar, on the coast of the Sierra de Tramuntana.

Banyalbufar:
Means “building by the sea” in Andalusian. A coastal village set on several different levels, with the church of La Nativitat de Santa Maria which houses one of the most valuable Baroque organs in the world. La Baronia, a 16th-century country house with a splendid inner courtyard now converted into a hotel, is a landmark of civil architecture. The coast of the municipality is marked out by terraces overlooking the sea, planted with Malvasia vines and local ramellet tomatoes, which owe their fertility to an irrigation system dating back to the Islamic period that includes channels, canals and fountains. The town of Banyalbufar is a prime exponent of irrigated crop-growing activities on hillside terraces in the Tramuntana mountains.
