Stage 13 - Gokyo (4,760 m) - Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) - Lagos - Machermo (4,470 m)
November 29, 2019.
Ascent from Gokyo to see sunrise at Gokyo Ri (5,360 m) . When the days are clear you can see the 4 peaks of more than eight thousand ( Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu ).
Then we continue the route going down to Machermo . It is the first stage of return.
In the end, we dismissed the last step of the Trekking through Renjo La and decided to go down this gorge towards Namche, which we had been told was more beautiful.

Description of the route:
To get to the Gokyo Ri peak (5,360 m) at dawn, we got up early.
The temperature at that time was very low. I estimate that we would be at -10º
We left with the frontals and crossed the frozen stream that is north of Gokyo.
As we went up, we made small stops to take photos and enjoy the views.
The six lakes of Gokyo are oligotrophic (with a low amount of nutrients). They are the highest freshwater lakes in the world (4,700 - 5,000 m). Both Buddhists and Hindus consider them sacred. Every year in August, the popular Janai Purnina Festival is held , where about 500 Hindus bathe in its waters to purify themselves. On the western shore of the lake there is a small temple to the Hindu deities Vishnu and Shiva. Near the sixth lake is the Cho Oyu Base Camp.
In less than 2 hours we reached the peak. There are 570 meters of unevenness. Although we were well acclimatized to the altitude after 8 days above 4,500m, it took a while. The 360º panoramic views from the peak are tremendous.
Down the huge Ngozumpa Glacier that we crossed 2 days ago, the 3 turquoise lakes, and Gokyo.
From here we can see four of the world's roofs, Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu , without forgetting the Negozumpa Kang I-II, Gyachung Kang, Hungchi, Pumori, Lingstren, and Nuptse , over 7,000 meters.
There were quite a few retained clouds throughout the entire mountain range from the Cho Oyu to almost the Makalu.
At times, small clearings opened up that let us intuit the silhouette of the highest peaks. It is a pity that those clouds were hooked on the summits, but it is what the mountain has. The same thing happened to us in Kala Patthar , that we did not even climb through the clouds.
We could also see to the right of Machhermo Peak , the Renjo La Pass (5,360 m) , where we would have to have crossed to complete the Three Steps of Everest, but for different reasons we decided not to do it, and go down directly to Namche. Our companion Alejandro crossed it, and when we met again in Phakding, he told us that in the pass he had not found much ice.
When we went down to Gokyo it was a helicopter coming and going. They landed very close to the stream to leave merchandise, and take people away.
When we arrived at the lodge, we collected our backpacks, and we continued on our way back to Machermo .
We leave Gokyo, skirting Lake 3 - Gokyo Tsho .
Then following the course of the river, Lake 2 - Taujun Tsho , with a beautiful turquoise blue. And finally Lake 3 - Longpongo Tsho , smaller and where they say that you can see the footprints of the Lama on a stone (They did not inform us).
We cross a small iron bridge, and continue downhill, parallel to the stream.
On the way we came across several caravans of precious yaks.
We made small stops to rest and take pictures with our colleagues. In the background the Cholatse .
When we arrived at Machermo , we stayed at the PeaceFul Lodge .
That night the temperatures dropped a lot. So much so that a mule that the lodge had near the kitchen door, they had to place a blanket over it. And since he did not seem to be very amused by staying in the street, he tried several times to get inside the heat of the stove, which he was not allowed. No wonder the poor man tried, we would be at -12º, and it was snowing weakly.
The next day it was time to continue going down, but with an important leg - breaking steep up 360 meters to the Mong la Pass , and a gentle descent until reaching the village of Kyangjuma , near Namche.
