Ninth Stage (1st Part) of the Trekking of the Three Steps of Everest.
November 25, 2019.
Stage 9 -1st Part - Lobuche (4,940 m) - Gorak Shep (5,165 m)
This first part of the stage is to follow a marked track between the towns of Lobuche and Gorak Shep, parallel to the Khumbu Glacier.
It has no difficulty, except for a slope of about 100 m in the High Pass, and that we are above 5,000 m.
We will pass the Changri Shar Glacier before reaching Gorak Shep, the closest village to Everest Base Camp.
Technical data :
• Distance: 4.5 km.
• Difficulty: Technically easy / Moderate due to the height.
• Time in movement: 2h, 30m.
• Total time with stops: 3h.
• Type of road surface: dirt track and path. Stone moments.
• Ascent slope: 320 m. ( Real value )
• Descent slope: 90 m.
• Minimum height: 4,940 m. (Lobuche).
• Maximum height: 5,165 m. (Gorak Shep).
• Signposting: The road is very marked (In some sections of the track)
Description of the route;
The nights at this point and at the end of November are quite cool.
Until you get warm inside the bag, it takes time.
Sometimes it feels less cold outside than in the room.
The most important thing is that I have managed to sleep, and I have rested enough to recover from the bird I had the day before at the Kongma La pass.
When we woke up, we grabbed our backpacks and quickly went to the living room to stand near the stove and warm ourselves. After a great breakfast we set off.
The day dawned more cloudy than previous days, but the temperature was more pleasant.
This first part of the stage is almost 5 km long parallel to the Khumbu Glacier , between the towns of Lobuche (4,940 m) and Gorak Shep (5,165 m) .
The feeling you get as you approach these impressive mountains is so incredible that it is difficult for me to describe it.
The path has no loss, like most of the trekking route. This is the stage for many, of arrival at Everest Base Camp and return to Lukla.
I have read so many books of expeditions to Everest, I have imagined it so many times, that the truth, I was very excited to see the base camp, from where the climb to Everest begins.
We have gone from being practically alone on the mountain to seeing crowds. Although Krishna told us that there are many more people in April and May.
1 km from Lobuche, we find the detour to the famous Scientific Laboratory Pyramid .
The Pyramid Laboratory-Observatory was built in 1990, and is the highest research center on earth ( 5,050 m ). It is a pyramidal structure of glass, aluminum and steel. It has a self-sufficient energy system and a large scientific laboratory. It is managed by the Ev-K2-CNR Committee of Italy, together with the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology . More than 550 scientific missions have been carried out, with the participation of 220 researchers from 143 scientific institutions around the world.
The house, for about 20 people is independent and has been built respecting the architecture of Nepalese lodges.
We continue along the road enjoying the mountains around us.
From left to right, Pumori, Lingtren, Khumbutse Peak, and the Nuptse . This mountain range separates Nepal from Tibet .
Behind us Taboche and the Thamserku in the background.
After about 2 km we climb a small incline called the High Pass , hard because of the height at which we are, but with small stops you can climb without problems.
The Panoramic of the Khumbu Glacier from above is impressive.
We observed the lagoons inside the glacier, which from this distance look like small rafts, but as we saw the day before when we crossed it, some are huge. From what they tell us, unfortunately each year that passes they are bigger and the glaciers are retreating due to global warming of the earth.
On the other side, the colossal Pumori pyramid with its 7,161 meters .
The name was put by George Leigh Mallory and means "The Mountain Daughter"
In the foreground and at the foot of the Pumori , the Kala Pattar with its 5,643 m ( “black rock” in Nepali). Many who come to Base Camp try to climb it as it has the best views of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse . As long as the weather is good and clear.
On the way we met some people very affected by altitude sickness who cannot continue. It's very sad, but it can happen to anyone.
In the most serious cases the helicopter comes to collect them.
Multiple helicopters are seen throughout the trek.
The three acclimatizations that we did were a very wise decision so as not to have any subsequent problems, considering that we would be several days above 5,000 meters. In addition to forcing us to drink 3-4 liters a day, and go very slowly. It is worth being demanding in the correct acclimatization.
We cross the Changri Sar Glacier , which connects with the Khumbu Glacier .
We already see Gorak Shep , a small village only operational in the months that visitors come.
We arrived at Gorak Shep and went directly to the Snowland Highest Inn Lodge , to reserve the rooms and not run out of them. After leaving the bags that the Sherpas brought us, we all went downstairs to eat in the living room.
The food was fast because we had to continue with the 2nd Part of the Stage. Get to Everest Base Camp . Another of the important objectives of this trek.

Gracias.
Un abrazo,
👏👏👏👏🌹🌷🌹
Gracias Yaser
