Itinerary description

A popular circuit on ancient paths, from Eus ("one of the sunniest" and "one of the most beautiful" villages of France) to the abandoned hamlet of Comes (or Coma) - with wonderful views south to the Canigou massif
1 - START. The upper entrance to the village of Eus, on the road near the mairie. We walk into the village. We turn left to go up some steps, by the mairie. We turn left. We go past a church (on our right). We go straight ahead, on a track towards the highest part of the village,
2 - Bifurcation. We go on the path to the left (we follow the signpost for Comes). Our path climbs the open hillside... We join a track and we go straight on.
3 - Bifurcation. We leave the track, and we follow the path, straight ahead... Later, we re-join the track.
4 - Bifurcation. We leave the track again, and we follow the path, straight ahead. The path climbs steadily, for some distance... Higher up, we pass a plantation of pine trees. Then the path climbs in zig-zags.
5 - Path-track junction - in open country, by an oratory. The deserted village of Comes ("Coma" on recent maps) is straight ahead. We go straight ahead, on the track. The track goes below the village, then it turns to the right. We follow the track up into the village.
6 - The restored church of Comes. We return to point 5. We follow the track, to the left. We descend... We cross a stream and we follow the track to the right. The track climbs the hillside.
7 - Track bifurcation. We go to the right and we descend... The track bends to the left... We cross another stream. We go to the right for a few metres to:
8 - Track-path bifurcation. We go to the right, down the path... The path descends, with the stream nearby, on our right... The path descends to meet the track again. We go to the right to:
9 - Stream ford. We cross the ford and we follow the track to the left. After a short distance we come to:
10 - Track-path bifurcation. We go to the left, and we follow the path. We follow that woodland path for some distance. The path descends gently, with the stream below on the left... Later on, the path climbs for a short distance.
11 - Bifurcation. We turn sharply to the left. The path descends and approaches the stream. There, it turns to the right. We continue to follow this path, which is obviously following the line of an underground canal... We eventually join another path, which arrives on the left. We go straight ahead. We soon reach the bifurcation at point 2. We go straight ahead, into Eus. We follow our outward route back to the start of this walk.
(Alternatively, from the bifurcation at point 11, we can go straight ahead. We soon re-join the outward route, where we turn left and return to Eus.)

Una ruta fàcil de seguir i de poca pendent. Té vistes molt boniques del Canigó. Es pot visitar el poble abandonat de Comes al final de la ruta.
