Itinerary description
Unfortunately didn't realise that battery saver disables background GPS updates, so most of this is pretty coarse.
On the way up, I took the path labelled "To Fansipan". This turned out not to be the main route, but rather a jungle hillside, which eventually converged with the usual one.

Hi, sound like great fun. I want to do the same. Did you need a guide, or is the trail easily and well marked?
Hey! Nominally you are meant to have a guide, although I did do it solo, on the sly. I left quite early in the morning, before anyone else was at the base of the mountain other than what I assumed was some kind of parks employee, so I made a dash to the trail head while he was out of sight.
Trail is pretty well marked, apart from the aforementioned false start, although this eventually worked itself out. Still not quite sure what the correct start route is, if you've got more time in the area (or less scrutiny when you're starting), might be easier to figure it out.

I may attempt to just do a dash to the trail myself. I run mountains and trails for a living, so don't feel I need a guide for what seems to be a fairly wellarked route. Thanks again.
