This is a loop walk through the Mediterranean oak forest located in Dehesa de los Montes between Loja and Villanueva de Tapia.

It follows double track gravel roads and has a small section on quiet tarmac country roads.

It follows a route around the valley of the Neblin river but at the time we walked the river was already dry due to drought. In years gone by we have seen turtles and crayfish and been able to let the dogs paddle in this river.

It can be very hot in the mountains and you should make sure that you have enough water for you and you pets. Sunscreen and a hat are also recommended. You should take responsibility for yourself when out in the countryside, and leave it as you find it, without littering.

Leave from the old school and walk along the tarmac country lane to a T junction at the local post hut. See a sign for Ermita pointing back the way you just came. Turn right onto a slightly larger tarmac road, follow this until you reach a gravel track descending on your right turn right and descend along this track with various twists and turns until you reach a small bridge over the Neblin river (which is probably dry). Carry straight ahead on the gravel track until you reach a T junction turn left. Follow the gravel track with a meadow on you left and the oak forest rising on you right. At a left bend in a stand of trees take a smaller track of to the right, there are two tracks take the left of the two. This track now climbs steeply, at one point with a fence that you must step over, until you merge into a larger gravel track. Turn right onto this larger gravel track and very soon turn right again up towards a crest. Just after the crest take an indistinct track to the right (to avoid a chained entrance) and merge onto a larger more distinct gravel track. From now keep to the main track there are many smaller, less used, tracks both left and right. Generally you are climbing until you reach a T junction turn right here and begin descending. At the bottom of the decent you will walk between farm buildings and along the valley bottom with meadows on you left and right until you reach a turning on the left which will take you back to the bridge over the Neblin and you can retrace your steps back to the old school.
