Itinerary description
You can catch the train to figaro or park in the main parking area leaving the village.
Stay on this road leaving town with the river on tour left hand side until you reach a turning on the right signposted “ruta dels arbres”, which is just past Font de Ca L’Andreu. It is also signposted with yellow and white PR markers.
It’s an easy walk where you basically follow the river upstream. It’s great to do with kids as there are numerous places to stop off for a paddle and a few ponds where it’s a bit more than a paddle.
Follow the path and keep the river on your right hand side. There is a path which crosses the river quite early on but there is a yellow and white cross here so keep on the left hand side of the river.
You cross over the top of the river further on near the bat boxes and above a nice pond area.
Depending on the time of year there may be quite a few people by the river but the further you go, the fewer people you see.
Follow the path up until you reach the road, then turn left. When you get to the junction turn left again.
You follow the road for about 15 mins, which is the slowest bit of the walk. It was also very sunny when we did it which made us even slower. There are not many cars, we only saw one each way.
You could turn off over the bridge at the ruta dels arbres sign but we kept on going for another 300 metres or so and came back that way.
We turned right at the sign for Can Matamoros and Can Dosrius (opposite Cal Mestre). Before you get there you’ll go past a casa de colonies on the left (Rectoria de Vallcarquera).
Follow the path and you will get to a fork (we went back this way, which joined up with the bridge). On the left, there's a lovely spot to stop by the river with lots of dragonflies.
We continued up the path from here, amidst 100s of butterflies, and went past the Mina de Socau on the right (in use in the 19th century and now you can't see much more than a dark hole.) Wouldn't recommend going inside.
A bit further along the track on the left, if you look down, you'll see the old ruins of L'Antiga casa del Socau. I'd recommend turning round at this point. We carried on a bit further, leaving the main track but there wasn't much to see.
On the way back we took the fork to the left. Look out for the small track going off to the right, it's easy to miss it. It keeps you level with the river rather than climbing into the hills. Once you reach the bridge, turn left back onto the road and go back the way you came.

Nice and easy, great for children. Thanks :)
What a great trail! We did it short after it rained so the stream was rushing. I took 3 kids ages 7 & 10 and they loved it. We hiked beyond where this trail ends but it was a bit flooded due to the rain. It was amazing day and so grateful to find this. Higher recommended. Don’t feel you have to follow the trail exactly though. You should explore as you go.
