Itinerary description
An easy, though at times steep, walk through the cork and pine woods above Castell d'Aro.
We set off from the Plaça Poeta Sitjar, the playground and park in the centre of Castell d'Aro village. From there we head through the area used every Christmas for the live Nativity Scene (Pessebre Vivent), where you can see the framework of the structures used.
We pass the beautiful old Catalan farmhouse, or Mas, and then start to head upwards alongside a tiny stream. There is a Geocache at this point.
We're walking through wild boar country and although they are not to be seen (this big beast is in fact extremely shy), their tracks and traces are very evident.
The paths are well signposted with information about the local flora along the way. Once up on top and out of the trees, the views down to the sea and across the valley are breathtaking.
Stop at the Font del Ferro to drink the water and regain strength before descending down the other side of the valley. REMEMBER to sign the visitor's book before leaving !
There are several Geocaches hidden along the way, so download the info before setting out so as not to rack up 3G roaming charges.
