Itinerary description

This hike was origionally lead by Hassan in 2013, the guide based in Douki. It was uploaded on a Catalan site that is linked. We hiked the first 2 days of it and found the track accurate but make no guarantees past Ley Fita.

The daily distances are easy and end in villages where there are campemants. If you have the money and want the easy route hire Hassan.

If you don’t have the money avoid Hassan, he is used to guiding people who fly in and pay well.

The good news is that the trail is relatively easy to hike on your own. There are plenty of villages to stop for basic supplies. We carried 25 sachets of water for 3 days, but it would be smarter to bring purification tablets.

You can find a shared taxi from Pita to the Douki crossroad and start from there. At the villages along the way you can usually hire a motorcycle to take you back to Pita.

We followed this trail just using an iPhone. I’d suggest also downloading the maps.me app which has better maps for west Africa and can load files form Wikiloc. Also bring a battery bank, solar panels weren’t very common in the first few villages and not many sources of power.

I’ll write more when I reach a computer or when Wikiloc makes it easy to edit maps on the phone.
