Itinerary description
The trail is an easy hike along the South bank of the river Eume, starting off and ending at the hydro power station way up the the river, with the Caaveiro monastry as a welcome watering hole half way. The winding, highly romantic trail closely follows the river, so there are no large changes of altitude. Kids will love this one (mine did).
Getting down to the hydro station can be tricky if you are coming from the South, since the road is quite narrow; the road on the Northern side seems to be somewhat wider (but we haven't driven there so had to guess from what can be seen from the valley ground). There are not exactly many spaces where you might park a car down near the hydro so it might be a good idea to have a friend drop you off and pick you up at a preagreed hour (we did not have any phone signal down there; even the GPS signal is quite patchy in the deeply cut fragas as you might gather from the rather wavy track). If you insist on bringing your own car, bear in mind that the gates of the power station get closed at some point in the day, so even if it looks like there is lots of space within the compound, you might encounter a nasty suprise coming back and finding you cannot get out your car.
At the monastry inn, do try the Galician Gin & Tonic; we also had Bocadillos and they were huge (half a portion is ample for a kid).
