Itinerary description
This is a very beautiful walk but at two points a bit difficult.
The first part, through the gorge along the riverbed of the Higueron, is easy and beautiful.
Shortly after reaching the basin we took the track of the GR 42 to Nerja to the right.
What follows is a reallly fantastic climb giving you many views deep into the Sierra de Tejeda.
Reaching the crest of the hill we followed the GR42 for slightly more than a kilometre and then took a narrow track to the left descending back to the riverbed of the Higueron.
This is an easy descent. We followed the riverbed for about 500 metres looking for a track up the steep slope towards what we thought was a dirtroad or broad track, as it was indicated on our map.
Once we found the beginning of the zigzag track we took this track up but the track proved to be overgrown with rosemary and other very prickly bushes and during the first part there were quite a few rather difficult to pass fallen trees and branches.
Arriving at what we thought to be a track or dirt road proved to be a canal. We decided to put off our shoes and walk through the water, as there is hardly any room to walk beside the canal.
The walk through the canal is not really difficult although there are some obstacles to be overcome as you can see in the photos.
Having reached the end of the canal we were glad to find ourselves next to a good path . We tried to find a direct track to Frigiliana but a closed gate stopped us, so we turned around and took a wider bend.
From then on it was fairly straightforward and what followed is a beautiful walk through the village of Frigiliana and then to La Molineta.
