Itinerary description
Another easy and pleasant walk along the Asturian coast, passing two secluded beaches.
Parking your car in Nueva is easy off season. In high season it most likely isn't. Your other options would be the Feve train or the bus. Or parking somewhere else along the trail.
From Nueva to Ovio and Picones you'll walk on quiet asphalt roads. After Picones the path turns into gravel. You are now on the E9 coastal long distance path. Sometimes we'll take a little detour from that path along the cliffs. In February 2021 these tracks were easy to follow. Gorse could be a problem in other seasons.
The path ends up at the beautiful Huelga beach. From there it is only a couple of kilometers more to the Gulpiyuri beach. This little beach is hemmed in by cliffs and unfortunately run over by tourists in high season.Your next stop could be San Antolín beach. It is a long and sandy beach, but the A8 motorway is really close by.
If you decide to skip Playa de San Antolín you can take the little tunnel underneath the railway track and walk along the road for a couple of hunderd meters to go underneath the A8. Then you'll take the first smaller road on your left hand and you are now on the Camino del Norte. Follow the shells as you'll pass the villages of Naves, Villahormes and Güergu. In between you are mostly walking on a quiet gravel road in a eucalyptus forest. Until you'll reach Nueva.
