Itinerary description
(english below)
- a beautiful hike, rather demanding in terms of physical fitness, but extremely rewarding. This is recent vulcanism at its best! You start in Garachico walking up a wall of recent lava fields (a few hundred years old) that fell upon the city. The trail zig-zags up toward San Juan del Reparo (about 500 m height) ... with amazing views on the ocean and the northern coast. Upward of 500 m you walk inside a serene Canarian forest, in part hiding the powerful (and fresh) lava flows, some covered with moss and lichens. Upon reaching the Chinyero circuit, I recommend to go along the upper part, since it affords unforgettable views. The descent to Santiago del Teide is again along massive, awe-inspiring lava flows (extremely recent ones, since the Chinyero exploded in 1909), and then through cultivated land (but I could not see it so well, since I had to run, not to miss my bus connection at Santiago ! )
