La ruta nos lleva hasta el punto mas elevado de la isla, el Alto de Garajonay, ofreciéndonos excelentes panorámicas de los paisajes forestales que cubren la meseta central de la isla, con los perfiles del Hierro, La Palma y Tenerife como hitos en el horizonte. El Alto de Garajonay fue uno de los principales centros ceremoniales y religiosos de los antiguos gomeros, como testimonian los yacimientos arqueológicos acondicionados para la visita que encontramos en el mirador situado en la cumbre.

La vegetación dominante a lo largo del recorrido es un fayal brezal joven, resultado de los trabajos de restauración llevados a cabo por el Parque Nacional y que suponen la recuperación de la vegetación original que sustituye a plantaciones de pinos que dominaban la zona hasta hace pocos años.

(English) Towards the highest Peak

This route takes us to the highest point of the island, El Alto de Garajonay, which offers excellent panoramic views of the forestry landscapes that carpet the central plateau of the island, with the silhouettes of El Hierro, La Palma and Tenerife standing out like landmarks on the horizon. El Alto de Garajonay was one of the main ceremonial and religious centres of the ancient inhabitants of La Gomera, as we can see from the archaeological sites that have been opened to visitors that we find at the look out point located at the summit.

The predominant vegetation along the route is young wax myrtle and tree heath, which is the result of the recovery work done by the National Park and which has led to the recovery of the original vegetation to replace the plantations of pine trees that used to dominate this area up until a few years ago.

(Deutsch) Hinauf zum Gipfel

Die Route führt uns zum höchsten Gipfel der Insel, dem Alto de Garajonay, und bietet uns wunderbare Panoramablicke auf die Waldlandschaften, die die zentrale Hochebene La Gomeras bedecken, sowie die Umrisse der Inseln El Hierro, La Palma und Teneriffa am Horizont. Der Alto de Garajonay war eine der wichtigsten Zeremonien- und Ritenstätte der Ureinwohner der Insel, wovon zahlreiche archäologische Fundorte zeugen, die am Aussichtspunkt auf dem Gipfel von Besuchern besichtigt werden können.

 Bei der vorherrschenden Vegetation entlang der Wanderstrecke handelt es sich um junge Heidebuschwälder, die von der Nationalparkverwaltung wieder aufgeforstet wurden, nachdem man die hier bis vor wenigen Jahren noch vorherrschenden Kiefernwaldpflanzungen beseitigt hatte, um sie durch Spezies der ursprünglichen Flora zu ersetzen.
