(Español) El retorno del Monteverde

La ruta conecta dos lugares emblemáticos del Parque: la Laguna Grande, antiguo cruce de caminos, punto de encuentro situado en un calvero asociado tradicionalmente a actividades humanas, principalmente ganaderas, y el Alto de Garajonay, la cima culminante de la isla  y lugar donde se encuentran yacimientos arqueológicos que confirman su importancia como centro ceremonial de los antiguos gomeros. Desde esta zona más elevada, podemos ver el manto continuo de bosques que cubren las cumbres de la isla, la Fortaleza de Chipude y la silueta de las islas vecinas en el horizonte.

Esta ruta se asocia con el fayal brezal, formación predominante en la vertiente sur y cumbres del Parque. El recorrido nos permite comprobar también el avance de los programas de restauración de la vegetación original llevados a cabo por el Parque Nacional, ya que atravesamos zonas de fayal brezal joven, cubiertas hasta hace poco con plantaciones de pino y eucalipto.

(English) The return of the Forest

This route connects two emblematic places in the Park: Laguna Grande, an old cross roads, a meeting point located in a clearing that has traditionally been associated with human activities, mainly grazing, and El Alto de Garajonay, the highest summit on the island and a place where we can find archaeological sites that confirm its importance as a ceremonial centre for the ancient inhabitants of La Gomera. From this high point, we can see the continuous mantle of forest that covers the peaks of the island, La Fortaleza de Chipude and the silhouette of the neighbouring islands on the horizon.

This route runs through wax myrtle and tree heath forest, the predominant formation of the southern slopes and summits of the Park. The route enables us to see the advances made in the programmes carried out by the National Park to restore the original vegetation, as we go through areas of young wax myrtle and tree heath forest that, up until a few years ago, were covered in plantations of pine and eucalyptus trees.

(Deutsch) Die Immergrünen Hartlaubwaldes

Die Route verbindet zwei emblematische Orte des Nationalparks miteinander:  La Laguna Grande, die uralte Kreuzung der Inselpfade und Treffpunkt inmitten einer Waldlichtung, die traditionell von den Inselbewohnern vor allem für die Viehzucht genutzt wurde, und den Alto de Garajonay, den höchsten Gipfel der Insel, auf dem archäologische Fundstätten von der großen Bedeutung zeugen, die er als zeremonielles Zentrum für die Alt-Gomeros innehatte. Von diesem privilegierten Aussichts- punkt aus können wir die waldbedeckten Berggipfel der Insel, die Fortaleza von Chipude und die Silhouetten der Nachbarinseln am Horizont bewundern.  Die Wanderung verläuft größtenteils durch einen für die trockenere Südseite und die Gipfel des Nationalparks charakteris- tischen Heidebuschwald, bzw.  Gagelbaum-Baumheidege- sellschaft. Auf dieser Route werden wir angesichts der jungen Heidebuschwälder auch Zeugen der Wiederauf- forstungsprogramme der Nationalparkverwaltung.
