Itinerary description
On the first part of the walk you get some really glorious views of the countryside all the way down to Gibraltar and Africa, and also of Gaucín's Castle of the Eagle on top of the cliffs.
Most of the walk is on good tracks, with just one section through the woods on smaller paths. The final section has a steady climb on good tracks back up to Gaucín village.
Waypoints
Start in Gaucín village just uphill from Bar El Portesuelo and Supermercado Ruiz Galan
NOTE: If you are starting near the roundabout by the Ruiz Galan supermarket then you don't need to walk up to this sign on the wall; instead walk down the main street past the Health Centre towards the main road A-369 to Ronda and Algeciras.
As you approach the main A-369 road, turn right by the STOP sign and go downhill on a driveable track
Walk downhill on this track, ignoring any side options to private properties.
When you reach the end of the track by white gateposts to Finca La Loma, (private property) go through the green metal gate
Turn left and climb uphill on a rough track next to the private property on your left
After a right hand bend, when you reach a more open area, fork right
The path at first looks unpromising and overgrown but soon becomes clearer. Don't touch the sticky Cistus plants! Follow the track as it winds uphill through the woods.
When you reach this white stone fountain go straight on downhill
You can see the track winding around to the right below you
At this corner, STAY ON THE MAIN TRACK (the Wikiloc track does a little wiggle but ignore it)
Leave the main track here and follow a rough path in the same direction above the main track
There is a cairn by the first tree. Follow in the same direction and in a few minutes you will reach some blue stripes on a rock to reassure you that you are on the correct route.
Look out for the blue stripes on a rock; then follow the path around to the right
There is a small arroyo (river bed) below you to the left; follow the path around and above the arroyo.
Pass through the metal gate. Pull it towards you (the bolt is a bit stiff) and make sure you close and bolt it behind you
Follow the rocky path and you will see a rust coloured metal bridge going across a small gully; do not walk across the bridge; instead follow a small path which goes to the right of the bridge and emerges into a car park area to a farmhouse. Follow the lane past the farmhouse.
