Gaucín - La Herriza walk - 'Adventurous' short loop

Start at La Herriza, cross the road and go downhill on the track opposite

Leave the track when you see the 'XI' sign and pass through the wire gate

Pass through the gate (open today)

Go around to the left by the blue stripes

Go between two fences, to the left of a large white house, then through a gate

Go through the gate

Go through the gate by the animal feeding troughs

Leave the main route here and go into an open field. Follow the small path uphill.

The section from here to the road needs careful navigation. Start off by following the small path uphill through the field; it bears left and is reasonably well trodden. When you climb up a steep section and reach a large oak tree, make sure you keep going straight on and then downhill (don't curve around to the right).

Pass through wire gate

Cross field and head for the opposite far side. Pass through a gate and turn left on the road.

After walking along the road for 5 minutes or so, turn left towards Puerto del Negro

Pass through the gate (to open, press the gate opener button on the left metal pillar)

Pass through blue metal gates

Pass through white gates and then the green gates

Leave the track at this cairn and go into the woods

This is the second "off-piste" section. There are cairns along the route but it still needs care to navigate. You are eventually heading for the road below. Start by following a diagonal line downhill to the left, and then "go right" at the next waymark.

Go right and follow a narrow path along the side of some cliffs

Turn 90 degrees left and then left again, looking for the cairns

Straight across to the cairn and keep following the path

After this, you need to fork right at the next cairn, and then keep straight on, following the cairns downhill to the gate and the road below. If you reach the road and the fence too soon, just follow along the fence until you reach the gate.

Pass through the gate, climb down to the road and turn right. Walk along the road for 5 minutes.

Leave the road and walk downhill on the track, then pass through the gate.

Pass through the gate. You will now follow the GR141 (red/white markers)

Pass through the gate, walk along the track to La Herriza hotel.

If you have parked near the main gates of the hotel you can walk through the grounds and follow Town Hall Route XI to rejoin your car.
