Itinerary description

This is a circular route which takes you up to the top of El Hacho and returns on a shorter route than the Gaucin Town Hall Route No.1 (also marked up as "Sendero Sierra del Hacho").

This route follows the main Sendero Sierra del Hacho route (Town Hall route No.I) to the top of El Hacho; when you get to the signpost at the top make sure you go LEFT to the east peak for a fabulous view over Gaucin village. There is a green metal geocache box there in the rocks which contains a visitors book - please sign the book for the Town Hall records! After the east peak, this route goes across to the west peak and the trig point, and then follows the Sendero Sierra de Hacho route for the first part of the descent. After 15 minutes of steep downhill, we leave the Town Hall route to do a shorter loop and we go "off-piste" through the woods. There is a choice of goat paths to follow on this section and the recorded Wikiloc route is only one option. What you need to do is keep going in the same direction, bearing downhill and left, until you either meet a fence ahead (in which case keep going downhill with the fence on your right and you'll meet a gate and the main path) OR you'll just meet the main path below. In both cases, once you've re-joined the obvious GR141 path, turn right and you will soon return to the signpost below the "calera" pit. Then retrace your route downhill back to the petrol station.

When you reach a large rock and the path levels out, LEAVE the main route.

This is where you leave the main path and start to do the "off-piste" section. Keep heading downhill through the woods, there are many goat paths so there isn't one "correct" route. If you keep going downhill in the same direction (diagonally left and downhill) you will reach the path below. If you reach a fence ahead then just follow the fence downhill and you will meet the path.
