Itinerary description
Geghasar mountain ( Գեղասար լեռ ) is one of the charming peaks of Lori region with the height of 1753 m above sea level.
There is some confusion about the name of the mountain, as we have another popular summit in the Geghama Mountains with the same name, the height of which is 3444 m.
This peak is not the highest point of the area, if you have time you may also cover higher summit next to it - Vihk mountain ( Վիհք լեռ ) with the height of 1823 m․
This peak becomes a hiking destination because of its spectacular rocky views.
Whenever you pass through Spitak city, you’ll see this mountain from the highway.
----------Some information about our hike:
— We started to hike from Geghasar village and ended up in Spitak city which made the hike longer and more enjoyable.
— There are many ways to get to the top from the village, but this is the best if you avoid steep parts during the hike.
— If you want to hike from Gegasar and leave your car there I’ve also uploaded another short way trail.
Search for “ Geghasar village - Geghasar mountain “ trail in my trails’ section.
— Though the summit seems unreachable at first sight, there are almost no climbing parts for getting there. Whenever you get closer to the summit, you’ll notice humanly made stairs of cement that lead you to the peak.
Be careful not to miss this part while hiking up (I’ve mentioned this in the waypoints).
— I’d not recommend hiking this mountain with kids, as the last part of the ascent is quite endy and may be dangerous for kids and people who are not good at balancing in the heights.
— SEASON:
This mountain has very short life according to the season. In winter months it can be ice-slippery and unpredictable, in summer it's quite hot at these heights and early spring weather is not very stable here.
So I’d recommend hiking here from May till mid June.
