Itinerary description
Great hike through the less used trails.
Starting in the tiny Kistani village, we follow the ridge that progressively climbs up to 3.060 m.
From there we follow the ridge that is the north-south water divide. It is perfectly walkable and we link several summits, most of them with no name on the map.
We left the ridge to traverse the big mountain of Tsroli (can't tell wether it is easey to climb or not, as the weather turned very foggy at this point and couln't even see it!!).
Then the trail descends a little to the Roshka side. It is a good occasion to refill water in one of the streams that flow down. We connect with the trail that comes up from Roshka to Tanie lake to the pass under Tsroli and Tanie peaks.
from there I kept followin the ridgwe direction east until Kalatanosghele, where i turned north to go down the valley of Kalatano to connect with Arkhoti valley.
This descend along the river gets progressively more complicated until a point that it is almost a jungle full of plants, bushes and mud.
Next morning I talked to a park ranger in Akhieli and he told me that I should have come down along the Tanie valley, since they keep the trail clean. I would suggest anyone to do this.
From Akhieli village, I followed the new dirt road (from 2015, I think) up to Roshka pass. From there I continued the same ridge I left the day before. Very aerial but still easy, it crosses the summit of Sasuptano connecting to Sadzelisghele pass, where i join the trail coming from Juta to Roshka.
I go down and slow ascent to the Abudelari lakes and the greats views of Chaukhi north walls.
Last day I climbed the super steep Chaukhi pass and down to Juta.

Отличный и красивый маршрут !
Hi Dani! This trail looks really amazing!! Is this trail safe without hiring a guide? I would love to revisit Georgia but for a hiking trip this time. And i am looking exactly like this multi-day hiking trips! Would love to hear your suggestions and waiting for your reply. Thank you! 😊
Hi Ann_22!
Happy you liked the trail.
In September 2019 i did these two hikes on my own, one after the other:
* Tusheti Hike (from Omalo to Shatili) - also in my wikiloc list
* Khevsureti hike (from Kistani to Juta)
Both are very beautiful. Big difference is that on the first one there is a lot of people, the way is very clear and there are more villages on the way to sleep or buy food.
The second one (the one that has caught your attention) is a lot wilder. Sometimes there is no trail and you must have some mountain intuition to chose the itinerary. In 2019 i did not meet any other hiker. In four days just one sheperd, one ranger and a group of construction workers.
It is not difficult or technical terrain, but it is high mountain terrain and very far from other people that can help if you get in trouble. You must assess your experience and capabilities before taking this one.
For general safety, Georgia looked like a very safe and place and very friendly people, especially in the mountain regions. I guess this stays the same.
Good luck, and if you decide to take it, I'd be happy to hear about the adventure!
