Beautiful and surprising route, of moderate level, through the Rock of Gibraltar. In it, we combine tourism, walking through the streets and squares of the city, with hiking, climbing the Rock by the Mediterranean Steps Path ("Mediterranean Steps").
We arrive at La Línea and leave the cars in the Santa Bárbara Parking, next to the entrance gate. We pass by the Control Station (Gibraltar Passport Control Station) and cross the airport runway. We continue down Winston Churchill Avenue and Cross Sacrifice to Market Place. There we take bus number 2, which takes us to Punta Europa (Europa Point), at the end of the Rock.
In Punta Europa, we visit the Harding's Battery and enjoy beautiful views of the Strait, the Bay of Algeciras, the Rif mountains and the Rock itself. We also contemplate the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque and the interesting Lighthouse from 1841. Then we return to the bus stop and take another one, from which we get off at the third stop, which is on the corner of Windmill Hill Road, where our route of trekking.
We go up a very steep paved road and enter a Mediterranean scrubland forest. We passed a Guardhouse (you might have to pay a euro, but they didn't charge us) and entered the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, created in 1991 and expanded in 2013. This reserve has great biogeographical, landscape and historical value. , and is one of the great attractions of the Rock. The reserve retains a large number of batteries and defenses from World War II and was closed to the population during that period.
Upper Rock has a network of trails and we enter the Mediterranean Steps here, the Mediterranean Steps, a path that zigzags through the eastern and almost vertical part of the Rock. This path, with steep slopes and through a network of tunnels and steps carved into the rock, spectacular viewpoints, numerous defensive military buildings, and under the cawing of hundreds of seagulls, leads us to the crest. There, in a perfect vantage point, is the O'Hara's Battery (330 m), a magnificent viewpoint of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the peninsular and African coasts.
After resting and regaining strength, we continue along a narrow road near the ridge. We turned off on a trail to the right towards the Douglas Lockout, but it was under construction. we continue
through a more touristy area, Monkey Feeding Station, among clever monkeys, vehicles and visitors. Further on, we arrive at the Cable Car Top Station, another excellent viewpoint of the Bay of Algeciras, the city of Gibraltar, the Airport, etc.
From here, we descend along the aforementioned road between Mediterranean vegetation and some military buildings. We pass by a World War II tunnel and close to the Castle Moorish. We leave Upper Rock and go down the steep stairs of Castle Street towards Main St. We go along Main St. to The Convent, Governors Residence and back in the direction of the border, where we finish this interesting excursion.
Note.- The accumulated slope is about 500 m, but the gps tend to distort the vertical walls of the Rock.

Sentimos no poder ayudarte. Saludos cordiales.
