The pont de la Machine building is an emblematic monument of Geneva and an important witness to the beginnings of the city's industrialisation. It is the oldest structure in Geneva situated on the Rhône in an urban environment. It was built in 1840 and was originally a pumping station that supplied the new public fountains with water. At the end of the 19th century, it was converted into a power station. The building belonged to the Municipal service of the City of Geneva and became the property of SIG in 1931. The building, which has been completely converted, now houses the exhibition space Quartier Libre SIG, the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie and the Michelangelo Foundation.
