Itinerary description

Very beautiful trail, very beautiful forest, very beautiful views but quite physically and mentally challenging due to very steep slopes and not very well marked trail so that you easily get lost if you’re not careful; NOT for beginners! The first part until Gogen-yama is actually not a problem at all, just breathtaking ascend at some parts so that you need a minimum level of fitness. From Gogen-yama to Kitamine it’s going up and down, sometimes climbing. Descending from Kitamine is quite tough since there are dangerous slopes without any ropes or chains to support; moreover, it’s hard to find the right trail, so look for pink, red, yellow and white ribbons that indicate the correct direction. Calculate at least 2,5 hrs to descend. I highly recommend to use GPS to confirm the right trail.
From JR Saruhashi Stn. 猿橋駅 you can take the bus with the direction to Asakawa 浅川(have a look at the photos with the bus schedule). At the end of this trek, you can take the bus from Sugidaira 杉平back to Saruhashi Stn. Even just the bus ride is a very scenic journey through the little villages. :-)
