Itinerary description
Great little hike on the Formentor peninsula down to the pebble beach at Gossalba bay. No facilities on the way. The start is from a small parking near a viewpoint on the Ma-2210 towards the Formentor lighthouse. In summer (June 23-September 15 in 2022) the Ma-2210 is closed for cars behind Formentor beach because the small road cannot handle the large volumes of traffic. However, the closure starts at 10:00 a.m. (until 10.30 p.m.), so you can access the starting point by car in the early morning. Alternatively, you can come by bike or public transport, or outside summer. I did this walk after having looked at sunrise at the Formentor lighthouse. I did not see a soul during my trip down to Gossalba beach.
From the parking you take a rocky trail downhill until the Gossalba beach. At the start there is grass, and a view of Roca Blanca, but you soon enter a pine forest. You cross a (dry) stream a few times and keep following the trail (no bifurcations). After a left turn, a view to the bay opens up. Just before the beach I followed a trail to the west side, descending across some rocks, but this trail ended above the water, and I returned to the original trail, and went down to the beach. There are rocks and pebbles here, and swimming is great in the quiet bay. There was a large group of goats here during my trip that did not mind me very much. After a swim, you return on the same path back to the parking on Ma-2210. Here there are two viewpoints. One gives a very good view of Formentor lighthouse, the other to a bay with Cap de Catalunya beyond. You can go down a small trail for a while, and then return to the parking.
