Itinerary description
From Laujar follow the tarmac road high up along the valley for an hour to Benecid. From here the road winds down for half hour to the highway where you pass underneath near the old bridge across the Andarax. Turn left and around a ruined house; keep to the right to start following a long two-track gradually up and along the valley, high up on the other side. This is easy underfoot but long with little shade: look for when I went off track to fine a lone pine! After about a hour on this track, past the turn off to the abandoned mining town of Minas de la Solana, you get to an escape sign - 20 minutes to the main road; the choice is yours! If you continue to the right it's another 1.5 hr along a long two track, skirting the hillside until you see Bereis and then Almocita in the distance. Turn left to another ruin for a smaller track, then a short steep scramble down to the road leading up to the tarmac. Stay alongside the road (except for a short visit to the old small church if you like) and round the bend to enter Almocita (the sign here: Almocita-north for a village with about 300 people, surely one of the best!). My trail ended here at the campsite, which by the way is one of the best locations in the Alpujarras, on a hill top surrounded by more hills, a lovely 15 min walk to the lovely village. This took me 4 hours including 2 short breaks.
