Itinerary description

25/5/18
The past few days we were discussing which route to take: the original GR10 or the variante GR10.3 which runs more to the north. We suspected to get better views on the 10.3 because it goes up higher but we were still in doubt. Last night we decided upon doing the variante.
Passing the Suarez museum before the steep climb to the Puerto de Arrebatacapas (pass that “grabs capes”); puerto that gives another view at Cebreros. Then after a small part through the pines, arrive at beautiful alpine meadows that offer views back at the Guadarrama. Up till here the track coincides with the Camino De Santiago.
Crossing these plains is not all that clear; the Camino parts to the right at one point where we turn left.
Crossing a fence and then steeply downhill on a narrow, overgrown path.
El Barraco comes in sight and seems quite close.
But it’s not. The route makes quite a detour. Crossing a river, going through cow-owned campos, passing vineyards in a nice dehesa. Climbing slowly the Gredos mountains appeared before our eyes. Especially because the quite heavy rain which we had was passing away. The sun appeared for the first time today and shortly before crossing the N-road to Avila, we saw a hill full of fantastic encinas, Monte Encina.
The last bit runs partly parallel to the N road. Entering El Barraco is a weird experience with lots of strange small industry building.
We ended at casa rural Maury; okay, nothing more.

We are walking the GR10 across Spain from Puçol (near Valencia) all the way to the Spanish/Portuguese border. We started March 21th 2018 and hope to finish at the end of June.
