Itinerary description
21/4/18
We planned to get to Ocentejo, some 17km from Huertahernando with a steep climb and a steep descent following the first lazy stretch.
However we discovered a Wikiloc trail that would avoid the climbing and descending so we decided to go for the easy one.
We had to pay for that decision... but got rewarded too.
After our lunch break, some easy 8km on the road, we descended further towards the rio Tajo and discovered that the improvised track we were following, was inaccessible in this period of very high water. Once at the bank of the Tajo, we had no other choice then to return and get back to the point where we left the GR10. So don’t try and take this shortcut unless you’re absolutely sure you can cross the rivers.
We were forced to do the climbing we wanted to avoid but it somehow paid off; a marvelous canyon followed by the most welcoming neighbors of Canales del Ducado. They let us use their “social club room” with a fantastic wood heater as our campsite for the night. All of them taking a great honor in making sure we are fine.
How lucky we are to only have managed walking 10 of the planned 17km!

We are walking the GR10 across Spain from Puçol (near Valencia) all the way to the Spanish/Portuguese border. We started March 21th 2018 and hope to finish at the end of June.

We decide not to go down here...
...so we don’t have to go up again. We will follow an easy route that is going down all the way to the Tajo river and Ocentejo.

IMPORTANT!
We wanted to go along the border of the rio Tajo to Ocentejo so we made a sharp turn to the left following the dirt road. But it turned out the river was too high to go along its bank and we had to return to this point. SO IF YOU WANT TO GO TO OCENTEJO PLEASE TAKE FROM THIS POINT THE SOUTH WEST PATH WITH THE WHITE/GREEN CROSS ON THE TREE. Don’t take the road on the left that we took, don’t go right and don’t go straight.
