Gran Canaria: Acusa

Vlak na kilometersteen 13 op de GC-210 stuurt een wegwijzer ons naar "Iglesia Candelaria", het mooi gelegen kerkje van Vega de Acusa, waar men goed kan parkeren. We volgen de vrij rustige verkeersweg CG-210 naar rechts, voorbij het kleine stuwmeer van La Candelaria tot aan het houten Cruz de Acusa. Hier gaan we rechtsaf langs het smalle asfaltwegeltje naar Acusa Seca.

Shortly after kilometer sign 13 on the GC-210, the signpost "Iglesia Candelaria" sends you to the beautifully situated church of Vega de Acusa, where you can park your car. Follow the fairly quiet CG-210 road to the right, past the small lake of La Candelaria up to the wooden Cruz de Acusa, where you turn right along the narrow asphalt track down to Acusa Seca.

Al snel worden we - als de wolken niet te laag hangen - getrakteerd op mooie uitzichten op het centrum van het eiland met de rotstorens van Bentaya en Nublo. De weg eindigt na ca. 1 km vlak voor het dorpje met zijn vaak wit gekalkte grotwoningen. Linksaf loopt een privéweg, rechtdoor volgen we een rotsig pad langs de overhangende rotswanden, waarin de grotwoningen zich verschuilen. Sommige zijn nog vervallen, andere werden reeds gerestaureerd tot leuke weekendhuisjes.

Soon we are - if there are no low clouds - entertained with beautiful views over the center of the island with the rock towers of Bentaya and Nublo. The road ends after about 1 km, shortly before the village with its often whitewashed cave dwellings. Left runs a private road, straight ahead we follow the rocky path along the overhanging rock faces in which the cave dwellings are hiding. Some are dilapidated, others were restored to pleasant weekend cottages.

We volgen het lange stenige pad door het dorp en langs de laagst gelegen rotswoningen. Een halfuurtje later voert het pad ons in een halve cirkel rond het rotsmassief naar de zuidkant van de tafelberg en zien we voor ons de landbouwterrassen. Het pad wordt een onverharde weg en komt uit op de weg GC-210, die we naar rechts volgen. Langs de weg ligt het gehucht Acusa Verde: witgekalkte huizen tegen een indrukwekkende rotswand. Tegenover huis nr. 12 voert een stenen trap naar de bron El Chorrillo in een grot onderaan de weg.

Follow the long stony pathway through the village and along the lowermost cave dwellings. Half an hour later, the path leads us in a half circle around the massif to the south side of the mesa and we see the agricultural terraces. The path becomes a dirt road and leads to the GC-210, which we follow to the right. Along the way lies the hamlet of Acusa Verde: a few whitewashed houses against an impressive cliff. In front of house no. 12 stone steps are leading to the spring El Chorrillo, in a cave down the road.

We volgen de weinig bereden maar landschappelijk fraaie asfaltweg enkele kilometers ver. Langs een viertal haarspeldbochten slingert hij omhoog naar het plateau en brengt hij ons terug naar Vega de Acusa.

We follow the little used but scenically beautiful asphalt road for about 3 kilometers. Along four hairpin bends the CG-210 winds up to the plateau and takes us back to Vega de Acusa.
